The figure to the right, facing the camera with both hands in his pockets is Adam Scottie Archbold. Called Scottie because of his habit of wearing his braces over his shirt in the manner of the Scottish herring fishermen. On his immediate left is George Dodie Archhbold (probably!). The figure on the extreme left of the group is Thomas Smailes Grey, Carol Grey's grandad. It has been suggested that the figure facing sideways wearing the whit hat was a herrring buyer.
